NEW CALIFORNIA Women Vote PROGRAM
Program Introduces Katie Hill to Voters and Highlights Steve Knight’s Record of Standing Up for Special Interests Over His Constituents
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List’s voter mobilization and education project, Women Vote, announces a direct mail program to introduce voters in California’s 25th District to Katie Hill and to call out Steve Knight on his disastrous record when it comes to women’s health, social security, health care, and education.
Katie Hill is a lifelong resident of California’s 25th Congressional District. As the daughter of a nurse and police officer, Hill is committed to putting middle class families first by advocating for quality health care that won’t leave families in debt, making higher education affordable and accessible to all Californians, and protecting Social Security. She will stand up to Republican efforts to defund Planned Parenthood, restrict access to birth control, or ban the right to choose. Hill is an experienced change-maker who takes on the tough challenges others won’t, and California families can always count on Hill to be in their corner.
Knight, on the other hand, has time and time again stood with Paul Ryan and Donald Trump in their efforts to limit women’s access to health care through defunding Planned Parenthood. Knight has called Social Security a “bad idea,” worked to end protections for people with pre-existing conditions and voted to slash Pell Grants. He has also consistently put big corporate interests ahead of regular people. Knight’s constituents deserve someone who will put them first.
The nine-piece mail plan targets Democratic and DTS women voters who voted in the 2016 general election, any election in 2017, or re-registered since the 2016 general election; voted in at least one of the last four federal primary elections (‘16, ‘14, ‘12, ‘10); and new voters who have registered since Election Day 2016.
The mail will be sent to a universe of 57,490 voters in 51,150 households and will drop on the following dates: 5/3, 5/7, 5/9, 5/11, 5/15, 5/17, 5/21, 5/23, and 5/29.
Women Vote is EMILYs List’s independent expenditure arm which works to educate and mobilize women voters on behalf of pro-choice Democratic women candidates, and help turnout voters for Democrats up and down the ballot. Launched in 1995, the EMILY's List Women Vote project combines polling and research, sophisticated message testing, the latest innovations in data and technology as well as good old-fashioned voter contact to mobilize millions of women voters across the country.
