EMILYs List Statement on Arizona Senate Nominee Martha McSally

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Tonight, Arizona Republicans nominated Martha McSally for U.S. Senate. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:

“Congresswoman McSally’s priorities couldn’t be more out of step with Arizona families. After a disastrous tenure in Congress and repeatedly shifting her positions during her primary, voters know Martha McSally doesn’t share Arizona values. Time and time again, McSally has proven that her loyalty lies in advancing her political career, not protecting the people of Arizona. Kyrsten Sinema will serve as a voice for Arizona’s women and working families and EMILYs List is proud to stand with her in the fight to flip this seat.”

Martha McSally’s record:

  • In a move that aimed to strip millions of Americans of their access to health care and tens of thousands of jobs in Arizona, McSally supported House Republicans’ efforts to repeal Obamacare.
  • In Congress, McSally has repeatedly voted to restrict women's access to reproductive health care.
  • McSally’s constantly shifting positions on immigration and the border wall are proof that the people of Arizona come second to McSally’s political ambitions.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
