FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed state Rep. Serena Gonzales-Gutierrez and Sarah Parady for Denver City Council At-Large. EMILYs List President Laphonza Butler released the following statement:

“The decisions made by a city council can impact access to critical resources like reproductive health care for an entire population, and EMILYs List is committed to supporting pro-choice champions like Serena Gonzales-Gutierrez and Sarah Parady in these races. We celebrate all that they have accomplished for their communities so far, and we know that by being elected to the Denver City Council they will continue to improve lives and fight for the rights of all Denver residents.”

Serena Gonzales-Gutierrez has been a Colorado state representative since 2019, where she serves on the Public & Behavioral Health & Human Services committee and has advocated for vulnerable children and youth in Colorado, seeking to improve access to mental health care, substance abuse treatment, and affordable housing. Gonzales-Gutierrez has deep roots in the city of Denver and is running for city council to continue serving her city and fighting for working families.

Sarah Parady is a lawyer and advocate who has spent over a decade fighting for workers’ rights and economic justice for all. She is a graduate of Simon’s Rock College and NYU School of Law and the cofounder of a public interest law firm that has taken on historic cases for disability discrimination and stolen wages. Parady is also a mentor to young people and served as the 2019-2020 president of the Colorado Women’s Bar Association.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
