EMILYs List Endorses Paulette Jordan for U.S. Senate in Idaho

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Paulette Jordan for U.S. Senate in Idaho. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:

“EMILYs List is proud to endorse Paulette Jordan for U.S. Senate in Idaho. Paulette is a trailblazer who has broken barriers as the first woman in Idaho and first Native American woman in U.S. history to be nominated by a major political party for governor, and now as a U.S. Senate candidate. After driving record turnout for her candidacy in 2018, she is running to serve Idaho in the U.S. Senate. Paulette is an experienced and visionary leader who will serve as a voice for rural and marginalized communities that are too often left out of the conversation. We are confident that Paulette will fight to protect affordable health care and working families in Washington, and we look forward to electing her this fall.”

A proud member of the Coeur d’Alene Tribe, Paulette Jordan grew up on her family’s north Idaho farm and learned the values of land cultivation and preservation from her elders. In 2008, after graduating from the University of Washington, Paulette returned home to Idaho and became the youngest person elected to the Coeur d’Alene Tribal Council. Paulette went on to work as a business development strategist in the energy sector, in addition to serving as both the Finance Chair and as well as the Secretary of the Executive Board of the National Indian Gaming Association (NIGA). In 2014, Paulette ran to represent her home district in the Idaho House of Representatives and she unseated an incumbent Republican and successfully ran for a second term. In 2018, Paulette was the Democratic gubernatorial candidate for Idaho, becoming the first woman nominated to the position by a major party in Idaho and the first Native American woman nominated for governor in U.S. history. Paulette is a mother of two young boys, and lives in Plummer, Idaho.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $600 million to elect pro-choice Democratic women candidates. With a grassroots community of over five million members, EMILY's List helps Democratic women win competitive campaigns – across the country and up and down the ballot – by recruiting and training candidates, supporting strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 150 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 16 governors, and nearly 1,100 women to state and local office. Nearly 40 percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. During the historic 2017-2018 cycle, EMILYs List raised a record-breaking $110 million and launched a record independent expenditure campaign. We helped elect 34 new women to the House, including 24 red-to-blue victories; enough seats to have delivered the U.S. House majority alone. Since the 2016 election, more than 55,000 women have reached out to EMILY's List about running for office laying the groundwork for the next decade of candidates for local, state, and national offices.
