March 15, 2023

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Kim Schrier for reelection in Washington’s 8th Congressional District. EMILYs List President Laphonza Butler released the following statement:

“As a pediatrician, Rep. Kim Schrier brings a critical voice and perspective to Congress, having seen firsthand the health care needs of working families and how critical it is for all Americans to have access to reproductive care. In Congress, she has worked to ensure food security, support veterans, and protect doctors who provide access to abortion. Schrier is a true champion for the people of Washington’s 8th Congressional District, and EMILYs List is proud to endorse her campaign for reelection.”

Rep. Kim Schrier is a pediatrician who serves in Congress to expand economic opportunity for Washington State working families. The daughter of an elementary school teacher and an aerospace engineer, Rep. Schrier has understood what it means to worry about health insurance coverage since she was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of 16. A proud graduate of public schools, including her degrees in astrophysics and medicine, Rep. Schrier has dedicated her career to improving the lives of her patients and their families. After the 2016 election, she marched, protested, and called her elected officials to fight back against the agenda threatening to undo all the progress we’ve worked so hard to make. When Republicans began their effort to take away millions of working families’ access to affordable health care, she decided to step up and run for office for the very first time and won. Rep. Schrier, her husband, and their son live in Sammamish, the community where she has served children and families as a pediatrician.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
