FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Marie Gluesenkamp Perez for reelection in Washington’s 3rd Congressional District. EMILYs List President Laphonza Butler released the following statement:

“Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez’s leadership in Washington’s 3rd Congressional District will mean that Washingtonians have a dedicated pro-choice champion representing them in Congress for years to come. EMILYs List was proud to stand by Gluesenkamp Perez in her first campaign, and we are proud to endorse her once again as she seeks a second term. We know that her experience as a small business owner and her commitment to fighting for Washington State families will lead her to do great things for the people of her district and for all Americans.”

Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez is a fifth-generation Washingtonian, small business owner, and pro-choice mother who represents Washington’s 3rd District. Rep. Gluesenkamp Perez has deep roots in Washington State: her great-great-grandfather helped build the state’s Capitol building, and her own parents met at Western Washington University after her father immigrated from Mexico. She now owns an independent auto repair and machine shop with her husband, Dean. “I won my race by working with people of all political stripes who believe in democracy, community, and our rights,” Gluesenkamp Perez has said. “I’ll do that same work in Congress to get the job done.”

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
