EMILYs List Endorses Julie Blaha for Minnesota State Auditor

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Julie Blaha for Minnesota state auditor. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:

“Julie Blaha has been an unwavering advocate for working families and women across the state. As a union treasurer, labor leader, and former math teacher, Julie understands the challenges facing Minnesota families and how to bring people together to solve them. Her lifelong commitment to empowering local communities makes her an excellent candidate for Minnesota state auditor and EMILY's List is proud to stand with her.”

As the daughter of the first woman to serve in her local township government, Julie Blaha has believed from a young age in the power of government closest to Minnesota families – in towns, cities, and counties throughout the state. She is a former middle school math teacher who worked both in the classroom and on a statewide school finance task force where she advocated for better resources for public schools. Blaha is also the former president of the Anoka-Hennepin chapter of Education Minnesota and currently serves as secretary-treasurer of the Minnesota AFL-CIO.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
