EMILYs List Endorses Sharice Davids in Kansas' 3rd District
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Sharice Davids for Congress in Kansas’ 3rd Congressional District. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:
“Sharice Davids is a fighter for economic equality and opportunities for working families. Between her time as a White House Fellow and her professional background as a lawyer and entrepreneur, she has the knowledge and experience necessary to be an effective voice for Kansans in Congress. Sharice is a champion for public education and has a proven track record of serving her community. She will no doubt continue to be a voice for others when elected to Congress.
“Sharice is challenging Congressman Kevin Yoder, a vulnerable Republican who acts as a rubber stamp for the Trump administration and the harmful GOP agenda. This is an opportunity to flip a seat and win back the House for Democrats. EMILYs List is excited to show Sharice the full support of our community and help elect this champion for Kansas working families.”
Sharice Davids was raised by her single mother, who is a U.S. Army veteran, in eastern Kansas and learned the value of hard work and service from a young age. As a member of the Ho-Chunk Nation,Sharice could make history as the first Native American woman elected to Congress. She previously worked for a law firm in Kansas City on issues including economic development for Native American tribes. She then went on to live and work on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. Sharice served as a White House Fellow during the final year of the Obama administration. In addition to making history as the first Native American woman in Congress, Sharice could also be the first openly gay member of the Kansas congressional delegation and the first Democratic woman to represent the 3rd District.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
