EMILYs List Endorses Cassie Julia for Election to the Maine House of Representatives
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Cassie Julia for House District 65 in the Maine House of Representatives. EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:
“Cassie Julia is the right candidate to protect reproductive freedoms in the Maine House of Representatives and EMILYs List is proud to endorse her in this election. For years, House District 65 has been represented by anti-abortion Democrat Bruce White, who consistently votes against reproductive rights. Now is the time to take a stand against anti-abortion politicians. Julia will fight for our fundamental freedoms, equality and inclusion, education, health care access, and affordable housing. EMILYs List is confident that in office she will work to improve the lives of all Mainers.”
Cassie Julia is a native of Fairfield, Maine and has made Waterville her home for the past 20 years. Julia is an advocate for Waterville Public Schools and she founded Friends of Waterville Public Schools to ensure that school budgets were protected and to highlight the importance of funding public schools. Over the years, she has worked tirelessly to ensure food security for qualifying K-12 students by raising funds to pre-pay lunch fees for reduced lunch, before the state implemented free-for-all lunch. Julia is a dedicated citizen, who intends to provide a progressive voice for the people of House District 65.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
