WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed State Sen. Kristen McDonald Rivet for election to Michigan’s 8th Congressional District. EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:

“State Sen. Kristen McDonald Rivet has dedicated her life to public service and EMILYs List is proud to endorse her to represent Michigan’s 8th Congressional District. McDonald Rivet will fight against extreme anti-choice Republicans in Washington to protect our fundamental freedoms. She will also work to make investments in our workforce and lower the cost of child care. It is imperative to elect McDonald Rivet to keep this open seat blue and win back the Democratic majority in the U.S. House. EMILYs List is thrilled to throw our support behind her during this election.”

She is currently serving in the Michigan state Senate, where she is the first Democrat in over a decade and the first woman ever to represent the Great Lakes Bay Region. McDonald Rivet has over 30 years of experience and has worked to improve employment and educational opportunities, revitalize neighborhoods, increase youth development programs, and create public policy addressing institutional inequity issues. She served as executive director of the Michigan Head Start Association, vice president of Michigan Future, Inc., and president/CEO of Greater Midland, Inc. As a community leader, McDonald Rivet was elected to serve as a Bay City Commissioner. She also was a chief strategy officer for the Michigan Health Improvement Alliance. EMILYs List endorsed McDonald Rivet for her election to the Michigan state Legislature in 2022.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
