EMILYs List Statement on the Dangerous Ruling by the Georgia State Supreme Court

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, by rejecting a previous Fulton County court decision, the Georgia state Supreme Court allowed the Georgia abortion ban to go into effect. EMILYs List interim President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:
“Today, the Georgia state Supreme Court ruled to uphold the six-week abortion ban passed in 2019 when Roe v. Wade was still the law of the land. The law, passed by one vote, ignores the will of the majority of Georgians and limits abortions to a point when many do not even know they are pregnant. This decision will force Georgians seeking necessary reproductive health care to make difficult decisions and put their health at risk. EMILYs List remains committed to supporting the Democratic pro-choice women in Georgia who will continue to fight this senseless and dangerous ban.
“Let what happened in Georgia today also be a warning to Virginians, who will cast critical votes this November. Republicans will not rest until they have enacted their anti-abortion, anti-freedom agenda everywhere. It is imperative that we preserve the Democratic majority in the Virginia state Senate and flip the House of Delegates to preserve abortion access. At EMILYs List, we will continue our fight to elect more Democratic pro-choice women to state legislatures, to fight for our reproductive freedom against Republicans who seek to erase our bodily autonomy.”
