Women Vote Invests in Virginia’s 4th Congressional District to Support Jennifer McClellan

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, EMILYs List’s Women Vote announced a digital ad campaign in support of Jennifer McClellan in Virginia’s 4th Congressional District. The ads will highlight McClellan’s pro-choice values, her endorsement by Sen. Tim Kaine, and the importance of sending her to Congress. EMILYs List President Laphonza Butler remarked on the importance of this investment with the following statement:

“This special election represents a critical opportunity to send a dedicated pro-choice champion, and the first Black woman from Virginia, to Congress. State Sen. Jennifer McClellan has been a champion for the people of Virginia for her entire career, and EMILYs List is proud to be able to stand by her and support her candidacy. We know that Virginians and all Americans will be able to count on her to get the job done.”

Virginia state Sen. Jennifer McClellan is a dedicated public servant running to represent Virginia’s 4th Congressional District. Her parents were community leaders and educators raised in the segregated South, so McClellan learned from a young age the importance of being a force for progressive change and serving her community. McClellan has spent over 17 years fighting for progress, justice, and equity in the Virginia General Assembly. She led the passage of the Reproductive Health Protection Act – making Virginia the first state in the South to proactively expand abortion rights – which eliminated mandatory ultrasounds, 24-hour waiting periods, and TRAP laws. As a community leader, she has served as a board member for a wide variety of civic organizations, including the Virginia League of Planned Parenthood, the Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia, and the Children’s Museum of Richmond. McClellan lives in Richmond with her husband and their two children, Jackson and Samantha.
