WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, congratulates Laura M. Montoya on her victory in the New Mexico state treasurer race. EMILYs List President Laphonza Butler released the following statement:

We celebrate her historic election as the state's first woman and first Latina state treasurer. We know that due to her strong record managing and investing millions of dollars as Sandoval County treasurer, Montoya will be a champion for New Mexicans when managing the state’s finances. EMILY's List is excited to see this trailblazing Democratic pro-choice champion excel in the role.” 

Laura M. Montoya was born, raised, and educated in Las Vegas, New Mexico. She has worked as a public servant in the state for over two decades. Montoya got her start in government in 2001, when she worked for a ranking member of the Senate Finance Committee. Since then, she has worked in several capacities in both the New Mexico House of Representatives and the New Mexico Senate. In 2012, she was elected Sandoval County treasurer, where she has had a strong record managing and investing millions of dollars.
