A Record-High Democratic Women Governors Will Serve in 2027, After Women Drive Wins Across the Nation
WASHINGTON, D.C. – A record-high number of Democratic women governors will serve in 2027, building upon last year’s record of 10, after women drove competitive statewide victories across the nation. EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:
“Women are at the helm of Democrats’ fight to win governorships nationwide — and they’re delivering. As the majority of Democratic gubernatorial nominees this cycle, women are driving the effort to secure executive power and shape the future of states across the country. These bold women have shown they have what it takes to effectively fight back against Trump and his allies, protect their constituents’ rights, and defend working families’ futures.”
The following EMILYs List candidates have secured victories in their gubernatorial races thus far, and Cindy Holscher (KS-Gov) is leading and in a strong position to win:
- Katie Hobbs, Arizona
- Keisha Lance Bottoms, Georgia
- Hannah Pingree, Maine
- Maura Healey, Massachusetts
- Jocelyn Benson, Michigan
- Amy Klobuchar, Minnesota
- Deb Haaland, New Mexico
- Kathy Hochul, New York
- Dr. Amy Acton, Ohio
- Tina Kotek, Oregon
- Helena Buonanno Foulkes, Rhode Island
- Gina Hinojosa, Texas
Since its founding in 1985, EMILYs List has helped elect 30 Democratic women governors to office — including making history with eight in the 2022 cycle alone.
