EMILYs List Statement on SCOTUS Decision Gutting the Voting Rights Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Following the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to weaken key Voting Rights Act protections, EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler issued the following statement: 

“Let’s call the Supreme Court’s effective dismantling of the Voting Rights Act what it is: a targeted effort to suppress the votes and voices of millions of Black and Brown Americans in order to rig the system for Donald Trump and his Republican allies.

“Today’s ruling only serves to further the urgency of EMILYs List’s work to secure power up and down the ballot in order to fight back against this administration’s overreach and the court’s complicity with it. Across the country, EMILYs List women are at the center of efforts to flip the U.S. House, win attorneys general and secretary of state offices, secure governing majorities in state legislatures, and win key state supreme court seats. As Republicans push forward an extreme agenda that threatens our freedoms and silences voters, Democratic women are stepping up — relentless, unyielding, and determined to take back power and protect our democracy.”
