Women Vote Launches New TV Ad in Ohio’s 13th Congressional District
WASHINGTON, D.C. – EMILYs List Women Vote has launched a new cable television ad in Ohio’s 13th Congressional District. “Extreme” highlights Madison Gesiotto Gilbert’s dangerous belief that states should be allowed to ban abortion completely with no exceptions. Gesiotto Gilbert is running against EMILYs List 2020 Gabrielle Giffords Rising Star winner Emilia Sykes, a pro-choice champion whose history of fighting for reproductive freedom puts her in step with the vast majority of Ohioans. The ad will start airing today, Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2022.
EMILYs List President Laphonza Butler commented on the new ad:
“Madison Gesiotto Gilbert has said out loud what so many other Republicans have said privately or tried unsuccessfully to hide — that if elected, she would vote to ban abortion with no exceptions and criminalize patients and medical professionals alike. Not only are her views extreme, they’re out of touch with the very people she claims to want to represent. Her comments are just one more reason it is so critical to elect Emilia Sykes to Ohio’s 13th Congressional District this November.”
“Extreme”
Narrator: “She’s extreme.”
Interviewer: “Is it true that you don’t believe in exceptions for things like rape or incest?”
Gesiotto Gilbert: “It’s true that — what I just told you — that I think it’s for the states to decide.”
Narrator: “And in Ohio, Madison Gesiotto Gilbert pushed to criminalize abortion, with no exceptions for rape or incest. She even suggested that if an abortion is needed to save a woman’s life, the woman should die.”
Gesiotto Gilbert: “Abortion is not health care. Abortion is murder.”
Narrator: “Madison Gesiotto Gilbert is too extreme.”
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised over $700 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure campaigns for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country's first woman as vice president, 159 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 16 governors, and nearly 1,400 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
