WASHINGTON, D.C. – EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, today announced a seven-figure independent expenditure program to push back against the racist and sexist attacks against Sen. Harris. As the nationwide voter mobilization and education project of EMILY's List, Women Vote will mobilize women voters to learn about and support Sen. Kamala Harris.

“As the nation's largest resource for women in politics, EMILY's List is thrilled that Sen. Kamala Harris is on her way to making history as the first woman to be elected vice president of the United States. Unfortunately, Sen. Harris is already the victim of vicious racist and sexist attacks,” said Melissa Williams, executive director of EMILY's List Women Vote. “It's 2020. We refuse to sit by while she faces discriminatory and false attacks. This is the most important election of our lifetimes. That's why we're proud to launch this significant independent effort to defend Sen. Harris.”

“Trump has shown he’s willing to sink to the lowest depths to win this election. He and anyone who comes after Sen. Harris can expect that we will have her back every step of the way. We know voters will love Sen. Harris as much as we do when they meet her. And we are here to help introduce her.”

The program is anchored to madamvicepresident.org

BACKGROUND

Women Vote has deep experience running independent programs to women voters supporting women candidates. We know all the talents that Sen. Harris brings to the table. And we also know all of the sexist and racist tropes the right will use to undermine her. Our program will work to lift up Sen. Harris, define her to low-information women voters, and get them excited to vote for the Democratic ticket in November. As one of the largest independent expenditure operations, we are working with allies across the progressive spectrum including PACRONYM, BlackPAC, Planned Parenthood Votes, and UltraViolet PAC providing research, content, strategic planning, and most importantly, partnership to get this work done.

Women Vote is EMILYs List’s independent expenditure arm which works to educate and mobilize women voters on behalf of pro-choice Democratic women candidates, and help turn out voters for Democrats up and down the ballot. Launched in 1995, the EMILY's List Women Vote project combines polling and research, sophisticated message testing, the latest innovations in data and technology as well as good old-fashioned voter contact to mobilize millions of women voters across the country.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $600 million to elect pro-choice Democratic women candidates. With a grassroots community of over five million members, EMILY's List helps Democratic women win competitive campaigns – across the country and up and down the ballot – by recruiting and training candidates, supporting strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 150 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 16 governors, and nearly 1,100 women to state and local office. Nearly 40 percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. During the historic 2017-2018 cycle, EMILYs List raised a record-breaking $110 million and launched a record independent expenditure campaign. We helped elect 34 new women to the House, including 24 red-to-blue victories; enough seats to have delivered the U.S. House majority alone. Since the 2016 election, more than 55,000 women have reached out to EMILY's List about running for office laying the groundwork for the next decade of candidates for local, state, and national offices.
