WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List’s voter mobilization and education project, Women Vote, and End Citizens United announce a six-figure direct mail and digital advertising program to educate voters of California’s 45th Congressional District about Katie Porter.

Katie Porter is a UC Irvine Law Professor and consumer protection attorney who has spent decades taking on Wall Street’s big banks – and winning. Katie will be a courageous advocate for working families, standing up to Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress as they continue to put special interests ahead of the health and safety of Americans. As a professor and a mother, she knows the importance of keeping assault weapons off our streets and out of our schools. A champion of reform, Katie has made getting big money out of politics a central issue of her campaign and is refusing corporate PAC money.

Katie has been endorsed by Senator Elizabeth Warren and Senator Kamala Harris because they know Katie will be the progressive champion the 45th District deserves, investing in public education, defending the Affordable Care Act and protecting Planned Parenthood and a woman’s right to choose.

Mimi Walters, on the other hand, has taken thousands of dollars from the NRA and has voted to loosen restrictions on gun ownership time and time again. Mimi Walters helped design the failed Republican health care plan to increase premiums and end protections for people with pre-existing conditions. She has stood with Paul Ryan and Donald Trump in their efforts to limit women’s access to health care through defunding Planned Parenthood and she has consistently put big corporate interests ahead of California’s hard-working families. The people of the 45th District deserve someone who will put them first.

The direct mail and digital advertising programs will introduce voters to Katie Porter, educate them on her progressive priorities and inform them that where Mimi Walters has come up short, Katie Porter intends to lead.

The eight-piece mail plan targets Democratic and unaffiliated women over 30 who voted in the 2016 General Election and at least one of the following: 2016 Primary, 2014 Primary, 2012 Primary, or registered since November 2016. The mail will be sent to a universe of 52,633 households and will drop on the following dates: 5/3, 5/7, 5/10, 5/14, 5/17, 5/21, 5/24, and 5/29.

In addition to the direct mail, an investment will be made in digital advertising on Facebook and Google Search. The ads will target roughly 200,000 voters; Independents, liberal and very liberal, with a focus on women and Latinx voters. The ads highlight Porter’s endorsements and progressive priorities.

Women Vote is EMILYs List’s independent expenditure arm which works to educate and mobilize women voters on behalf of pro-choice Democratic women candidates, and help turnout voters for Democrats up and down the ballot. Launched in 1995, the EMILY's List Women Vote project combines polling and research, sophisticated message testing, the latest innovations in data and technology as well as good old-fashioned voter contact to mobilize millions of women voters across the country.

End Citizens United is dedicated to getting Big Money out of politics and fixing the rigged system in Washington so it works for all Americans. It is working to elect members of Congress who will fight to overturn Citizens United and pass meaningful reforms.
