Virginia Women Ready to Run and Win EMILYs List to Host Training for General Election Candidates
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Inspired by the outcome of the 2016 election, over 15,000 women have reached out to EMILY's List for help in running for office. Virginia has one of the largest groups of women-declared candidates this cycle.
EMILYs List will be training these declared candidates on Monday, July 24th. This “Run to Win” training will provide women with the tools they need to run a successful general election campaign and the opportunity to hear from leaders who are committed to helping them win. EMILY's List President Stephanie Schriock will speak at the training.
Earlier this year, EMILY's List endorsed several winning candidates for the Virginia House of Delegates in their primaries, including Danica Roem (HD-13), Kelly Fowler (HD-21), Hala Ayala (HD-51), and Delores McQuinn (HD-70). They also endorsed Wendy Gooditis (HD-10), Delegate Kathleen Murphy (HD-34), and Cheryl Turpin (HD-85), who are now running in competitive general elections.
The Richmond training is part of a national recruitment effort that will train in over 20 states to recruit and prepare more women to run and win at every level of government.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to help more women run at the local, state, and national levels.
