Harris County GOP attacked Lizzie on her strong record defending women's health in Houston

WASHINGTON, D.C.  – As the Texas 7th Congressional District Democratic primary approaches on March 6th, local Republicans are already weighing in on the primary and signaling who they're worried about facing this November: Houston progressive leader Lizzie Pannill Fletcher.

Last night, the Harris County Republican Party attacked Fletcher's record defending women's health in Houston.

“Texas Republicans are attacking Lizzie Pannill Fletcher and her strong record standing up for women's health because they know she is the best candidate to defeat House Republican John Culberson this November,” said Lucinda Guinn, vice president of campaigns at EMILY's List. “EMILY's List is proud to endorse a progressive champion like Lizzie who will always fight for Houston women and hardworking families, unlike John Culberson who betrayed his own constituents when he voted for Paul Ryan’s disastrous health care bill that would kick millions of Americans – including thousands of Texans – off their insurance.”

In their endorsement of Fletcher earlier this month, the Houston Chronicle described Fletcher's background as “impressive” citing her work “on the front lines defending abortion providers from protesters during the 1992 Republican Convention in Houston.” Fletcher co-founded Planned Parenthood Young Leaders in 2000, and has helped recruit a new generation of leaders to fight for the vital health care provider.
