Over 100 Democratic Women Will Serve in the U.S. House For the First Time, After EMILYs List Women Flip Seats Nationwide
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, D.C. – For the first time in history, over 100 Democratic women will serve in the U.S. House simultaneously after EMILYs List candidates battled out competitive victories and flipped Republican-held seats all across the country.
EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:
“This is a powerful testament to what happens when we bet on women and help them build winning campaigns. Throughout our history, EMILYs List has helped equip strong women leaders to run, compete, and win in some of the toughest U.S. House races across the map. Time and again, women have proven to be Democrats’ strongest path to building power in Congress — and now, this group of bold women leaders will fight to deliver real solutions that make Americans’ everyday lives better again.”
Since its founding in 1985, EMILYs List has helped elect 227 Democratic women to the U.S. House, and amplify women’s representation in the House Democratic Caucus from less than 5% to nearly 40%. EMILYs List’s Mission Majority initiative put Democratic women at the center of an aggressive strategy to flip the U.S. House and reclaim the majority. EMILYs List led the effort to expand the battleground map, backing 26 Majority Makers in key competitive districts and tougher Republican-held terrain where strong women candidates could deliver the seats Democrats needed to win the House.
