“One year later, and the message is clear: Women aren't backing down, and we're going to win.”
EMILY's List on the Anniversary of the Women's March

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement on the anniversary weekend of the Women's March:

“One year ago today, a misogynist was sworn in as President of the United States — and a day later, millions of women across the globe took to the streets in sisterhood and solidarity. Women, whether they were marching, protesting, organizing, voting, or winning elections, did not take a single day off this year — and they're changing the face of power in this country. We challenged women to run or help other women run for office, and they wholeheartedly answered our call.”

“What should worry Trump and his Republicans most isn't just that Democratic women are running — but that they're winning. In November, EMILY's List candidates flipped 11 seats in the Virginia House of Delegates. We shattered the Republican supermajority in the Georgia Senate, and won the majority in Washington State's. Just this week in Wisconsin, our candidate Patty Schachtner flipped a state Senate seat in a district Trump won by 17 points.”

“In almost every district, Republicans face tough elections against Democratic candidates — many of them EMILY's List women. We're working with candidates in over 60 U.S. House districts. We're supporting a likely record number of candidates for governor. We're fighting for Virginia-sized victories in legislatures from coast to coast.”

“One year into Trump's presidency, and the message is clear: Women aren't backing down, and we're going to win.”

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
