EMILY’s List Endorses Kathleen Williams in Montana’s At-Large Congressional District
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Kathleen Williams for Congress in Montana’s At-Large Congressional District. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILY’s List, released the following statement:
“EMILY’s List is proud to stand alongside my fellow Montanan Kathleen Williams because we know that she’ll be the deeply committed representative who working families deserve fighting for them in Congress. Her experience serving as a caregiver for her ailing mother drives her desire to ensure that quality health care is affordable and accessible for all Montanans, especially those in rural communities. An avid hiker, she deeply values our state’s outdoor heritage and will fight to protect public lands for generations to come. Kathleen envisions an economy where all working families have the opportunity to succeed – something she championed as a state legislator and will prioritize in Congress.
“After running in a very close race in 2018, Kathleen is seeking to flip this Republican-held seat and support an agenda that serves Montanans, not corporate special interests. We know Kathleen can take this competitive race across the finish line to a victory in 2020, and EMILY’s List looks forward to supporting her along the way.”
Kathleen Williams’ career in public service and natural resources spans over three decades across the public, private, and nonprofit sectors. As a three-term state representative, she gained respect from colleagues on both sides of the aisle and distinguished herself as an ethical, effective legislator who led on issues ranging from protecting water rights to advocating for fair tax reform. Kathleen enjoys fishing, hunting, canoeing, and cycling in Montana’s beautiful outdoors, which she wants to protect for public use. She has two adult step-sons and a German wirehaired pointer named Danni.
EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $600 million to elect pro-choice Democratic women candidates. With a grassroots community of over five million members, EMILY's List helps Democratic women win competitive campaigns – across the country and up and down the ballot – by recruiting and training candidates, supporting strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 150 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 16 governors, and nearly 1,100 women to state and local office. Nearly 40 percent of the candidates EMILY’s List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. During the historic 2017-2018 cycle, EMILY’s List raised a record-breaking $110 million and launched a record independent expenditure campaign. We helped elect 34 new women to the House, including 24 red-to-blue victories; enough seats to have delivered the U.S. House majority alone. Since the 2016 election, more than 46,000 women have reached out to EMILY's List about running for office laying the groundwork for the next decade of candidates for local, state and national offices.
