EMILYs List Endorses Christina Hale in Indiana’s 5th Congressional District

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Christina Hale for Congress in Indiana’s 5th Congressional District. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:

“Christina Hale is a lifelong Hoosier and community leader running to be a voice for Indiana families in Congress and EMILY's List is proud to endorse her today. She is deeply committed to protecting access to affordable health care, creating an economy that works for all Hoosiers, and preventing violence against women and girls. As a single mother who worked hard to pay her way through Purdue University, Christina knows how important economic and educational opportunities are as a tool to help working families create better lives for themselves. We know she will fight to expand the same opportunities as a member of Congress.

“Christina is running for the open seat currently held by retiring Republican Rep. Susan Brooks. Deep-pocketed special interests will do everything they can to keep this seat, but Christina has what it takes to win this race  with our help. We look forward to showing her the full support of the EMILYs List community to help elect this champion for Hoosier moms and working families.”

Christina Hale was elected to the Indiana state House in 2012 and quickly established a reputation as a tireless worker. Despite serving in the superminority for two terms, she was able to bridge political divides to pass important legislation supporting women, families, and small businesses. She made good on her promise to collaborate – every single bill she passed had support from Democrats and Republicans. As the only member of the Indiana legislature of Latinx descent at the time, Christina, who is Cuban-American, gave Hoosiers a new voice in Indianapolis. She most recently served as executive director of Kiwanis Youth Programs at Kiwanis International, and is a proud resident of Indianapolis.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $600 million to elect pro-choice Democratic women candidates. With a grassroots community of over five million members, EMILY's List helps Democratic women win competitive campaigns – across the country and up and down the ballot – by recruiting and training candidates, supporting strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 150 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 16 governors, and nearly 1,100 women to state and local office. Nearly 40 percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. During the historic 2017-2018 cycle, EMILYs List raised a record-breaking $110 million and launched a record independent expenditure campaign. We helped elect 34 new women to the House, including 24 red-to-blue victories; enough seats to have delivered the U.S. House majority alone. Since the 2016 election, more than 50,000 women have reached out to EMILY's List about running for office laying the groundwork for the next decade of candidates for local, state and national offices.
