EMILY’s List Endorses Chris Giunchigliani for Nevada Governor
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Chris Giunchigliani ("Chris G") for governor of Nevada. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILY’s List, released the following statement:
"Chris G's lifetime of public service fighting for Nevadans is unmatched. Chris knows the struggles of Nevada families, having fought to pay her way through college by working full-time. She believes every Nevadan deserves the freedom to earn a good living and that starts with educational and job opportunities. As a current teacher, local labor leader, state legislator, and currently the vice chair of the Clark County Commission, she knows what it takes to find solutions for women and families. She is a proven leader on women's health, economic opportunity for working families, better public schools, fiscal responsibility, and leveling the playing field for small business owners. Now, Chris is taking that passion and dedication to improving Nevadans' lives to the governor's seat."
"Chris G will be a fierce leader and strong champion for Nevada women and families in a state that has never before elected a woman as governor. EMILY's List is thrilled to stand by her side.”
Chris is running for an open governorship as incumbent Republican Governor Brian Sandoval faces term limits. She is an experienced and effective leader — and the only candidate to champion Nevada’s working families. In this state where Democrats hold both chambers – including the state Senate by a razor-thin margin – and Hillary Clinton narrowly outperformed Donald Trump in 2016, this race is a fight for Nevada’s future. Nevada has never before elected a woman governor, and with only two Democratic women governors in the country, this is an opportunity the EMILY’s List community can’t pass up.
EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILY’s List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILY’s List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
