EMILY’s List Endorses Carolyn Bourdeaux in Georgia's 7th District
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Carolyn Bourdeaux for Congress in Georgia's 7th Congressional District. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILY’s List, released the following statement:
“Carolyn Bourdeaux is an experienced leader whose lifelong commitment to public service has prepared her to be a voice for Forsyth and Gwinnett County families in Congress. Carolyn has honed her public policy expertise over the years as a budget expert at the Georgia state legislature and as a professor at Georgia State University. Now, she’s ready to take that expertise to Washington and work to expand opportunities for working families.
“Carolyn’s running against Congressman Rob Woodall, who has repeatedly voted to take away his constituents’ access to affordable, quality health care. Carolyn has what it takes to flip this seat from red to blue and help Democrats take back the House. Let’s show Carolyn the full support of the EMILY’s List community to help elect this champion for Georgia working families to Congress.”
The daughter of two teachers, Carolyn Bourdeaux won grants and took out federal loans to work her way through college at Yale and went on to earn a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Southern California as well as a Ph.D. in public administration with a focus on public finance from Syracuse University. She served as director of Georgia’s Senate Budget and Evaluation Office, where she advocated for policies that put taxpayer dollars to work in ways that improve Georgians’ lives. Carolyn was most recently a professor at Georgia State University and lives in Suwanee with her husband and their young son.
EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILY’s List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILY’s List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
