EMILYs List Endorses Alyse Galvin in Alaska’s At-Large Congressional District
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Alyse Galvin after she became the Democratic nominee in Alaska’s At-Large Congressional District. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:
“Alyse Galvin is a proven champion for Alaska’s working families, and EMILYs List is proud to endorse her campaign for Congress as the Democratic nominee. An educator and a two-time small business owner who became the first in her family to earn a college degree, Alyse understands hard work and perseverance. Unlike GOP incumbent Rep. Don Young, who voted to strip insurance from 23 million Americans, Alyse will represent Alaskans’ interests in Washington. EMILYs List placed Rep. Young “On Notice” for his anti-woman agenda, and we are proud to stand with Alyse, who will bring new leadership and a fresh perspective to Congress in November.”
A third-generation Alaskan, Alyse Galvin has owned two small businesses, managed a large hotel, and worked to expand early childhood education for Alaskan kids at the public-private partnership Best Beginnings. Alyse went on to serve Alaskans under the leadership of two governors to improve the state’s public schools. In 2014, frustrated by years of education underfunding and facing renewed threats to public schools, Alyse led a small group of parents to resist new budget cuts. Great Alaska Schools grew into a grassroots force of over 4,000 across the state and succeeded in restoring funding and improving public education. Alyse stepped up to run for Congress in 2018, and as a first time candidate, she came closer to winning this red seat than anyone had in nearly 30 years. Now she is back to finish the job, and she has what it takes to win.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $600 million to elect pro-choice Democratic women candidates. With a grassroots community of over five million members, EMILY's List helps Democratic women win competitive campaigns – across the country and up and down the ballot – by recruiting and training candidates, supporting strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 150 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 16 governors, and nearly 1,100 women to state and local office. Nearly 40 percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. During the historic 2017-2018 cycle, EMILYs List raised a record-breaking $110 million and launched a record independent expenditure campaign. We helped elect 34 new women to the House, including 24 red-to-blue victories; enough seats to have delivered the U.S. House majority alone. Since the 2016 election, more than 55,000 women have reached out to EMILY's List about running for office laying the groundwork for the next decade of candidates for local, state, and national offices.
