EMILYs List Statement on Mike Pence’s Visits to KS-03 and IA-01

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today Vice President Mike Pence is in Kansas City and Cedar Rapids campaigning for Republican congressmen Kevin Yoder and Rod Blum. Christina Reynolds, vice president of communications at EMILYs List, released the following statement:

“The vice president’s visits to Kansas City and Cedar Rapids should put to rest any notion that these Republicans are running on anything other than the Trump administration’s disastrous far-right agenda. While Kevin Yoder is campaigning with one of the most anti-LGBTQ lawmakers in office, Sharice Davids is poised to make history as the first openly gay Kansan – and first Native American woman – in Congress, where she will fight for the rights of all Kansans. And while Rod Blum is standing with someone who wants to outlaw abortion and defund Planned Parenthood, Abby Finkenauer has proven that she will stand up to oppose any bill that will restrict women’s access to reproductive health care and the right to choose. EMILYs List is proud to be supporting Sharice and Abby in their efforts to unseat the Trump puppets and stand up for their districts in Congress.”

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
