EMILYs List Statement on Donald Trump’s Abortion “Plan”
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Republican presumptive presidential nominee Donald Trump announced his latest plan for abortion rights after campaigning on taking credit for the fall of Roe v. Wade. Like many other Republicans, Trump is running from his unpopular actions now that Americans are voting against them. EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement in response:
“Access to abortion care is out of reach for too many who need it. Thanks to Donald Trump and the Republican Party, we face more draconian bans and laws aimed at ending our reproductive freedom. Trump’s statement today does not solve any of those problems and makes no promises for future reproductive rights. Instead, Trump just endorsed every ban that has been introduced across the country.
“Today’s statement is just a clear sign that Trump understands how toxic his record is to voters. He owes it to voters to tell them whether he will sign a national abortion ban if it reaches his desk, whether he supports Project 2025’s reproductive policies, and how he will vote on his home state’s abortion rights ballot initiative. Based on his record – which includes bragging about overturning Roe v. Wade and threatening to punish women and doctors – voters can only assume the worst.”
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
