WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, released the following statement to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month:

“This month, we celebrate the significant contributions Latinos of all backgrounds have made to our great nation,” said Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILY's List. “It's particularly important to recognize these accomplishments at a time when we have a president determined to undo the progress that Latinos have worked so hard to achieve. From the very first day of his campaign, President Trump has targeted Latinos with bigotry and cruelty. This administration has made attacking Latinos' civil rights a top priority, and their Republican allies in Congress continue to advance a dangerous and un-American agenda that disproportionately harms this community.”

“That is why EMILY's List is committed to ensuring that Latinas have a seat at the decision-making table. We are proud to have supported trailblazers like Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto, the first Latina elected to the U.S. Senate, Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham, Rep. Nanette Barragán, and many others — past, present, and future. They are the vanguard of a movement that won't let up until working women and families of every background have an equal voice in the halls of power. Now, more than ever, we need Latina progressive fighters in Washington and in state capitols around the country.”

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
