EMILYs List Run to Win Training and Recruitment Program Announces Virtual Run for Local Office Training Series
WASHINGTON, D.C. – EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, is hosting a virtual training program through Run to Win, its national recruitment and training campaign aimed at helping Democratic pro-choice women run for office.
The EMILYs List Run for Local Office training series is a three-week training initiative, starting Feb. 13, 2023, geared toward those thinking about running for local office. The program will feature weekly assignments and video recordings, a virtual webinar training, and a panel event with networking sessions afterward.
“When the Supreme Court decided to overturn the constitutional right to abortion, the anti-abortion movement thought they stopped the fight for reproductive freedom. Instead, they fueled the fire within us all over again,” said Johanna Silva Waki, vice president of training and community engagement at EMILYs List.
“We are still doing what we know best at EMILYs List: fighting against abortion bans by recruiting and helping elect Democratic pro-choice women to office. We know the frontlines in the fight for abortion rights are shifting, and running for local office is one way to help protect abortion rights from the ground up. Offices like state legislatures, mayors, district attorneys, school boards, and more can protect abortions in your community. The fight for abortion rights will take each one of us finding creative, brave ways to work in our communities and make a difference, and through this Run to Win training series, we will do just that.”
EMILYs List’s Run to Win training program has trained nearly 15,000 women, equipping them with essential tools to launch and run a winning campaign. During the training, participants will learn everything they need to know to run for local office, including how to get on the ballot, build a campaign team, identify future donors and supporters, and more!

###
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised over $700 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure campaigns for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 159 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 16 governors, and nearly 1,400 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
