WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, announced the launch of Run to Win, a nationwide campaign to recruit and help pro-choice Democratic women around the country run for office and win. The campaign will build off the momentum from millions of women across the country who have stepped up, spoken out, and marched in their communities to protect their rights.
Since Election Day, EMILYs List has heard from over 4,000 women interested in running for office — an unprecedented level of interest from women who are ready to roll up their sleeves and launch campaigns of their own. As a result, EMILYs List held a candidate training for 500 women in Washington, D.C. the day after the historic Women’s March on Washington and will expand that work nationwide as part of the Run to Win campaign. And for those who are interested in supporting women’s leadership in government but are not ready to run themselves, Run to Win will provide ways for women and men across the country to get involved with the campaigns of pro-choice Democratic women candidates in their communities.
“This election has sparked a movement to fight back against efforts to roll back progress by this White House and the Republican Congress,” said EMILYs List President Stephanie Schriock. “Our Run to Win campaign is harnessing this energy by recruiting and helping to elect the next generation of women leaders who will fight for all women and families. In just his first weeks in office, Donald Trump’s actions have put our core values as a country at risk, but it’s EMILYs List women who are standing up to his dangerous agenda and finding ways to help build a better future for all Americans. This moment requires nothing less than an all-hands-on-deck effort to get more champions for our communities at the decision-making table. This is why we are doubling our efforts to help more women run for office and connect those who aren’t interested in running themselves to the campaigns of pro-choice Democratic women in their communities.”
The Run to Win program will build off of EMILYs List’s 32 years of work to bring more diverse perspectives to all levels of government. Last cycle, EMILYs List was proud to have helped elect the most diverse Congress in United States history, including electing three new women of color to the United States Senate and six new women of color to the House of Representatives. Run to Win will consist of trainings across the country, webinars, and other resources to equip Democratic women with the tools, inspiration, and resources needed to run for office and win.

EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have trained nearly 10,000 women to run and helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILY’s List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color – including every single Latina, African American, and Asian American Democratic congresswoman currently serving.
