EMILYs List Invests More Than $250,000 in Effort to Keep the Nevada Legislature Blue
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today with just two weeks until Election Day, EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, announced that it has invested a record $256,100 in the fight to protect the Democratic majority of the Nevada Legislature. This is EMILYs List’s largest financial investment in Nevada’s state legislative races and is part of an ongoing effort to increase and diversify women’s leadership across the country.
“As the nation’s first and only woman-majority legislature, Nevada remains an example of what’s possible when we strive for equal representation in our governing bodies,” said Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List. “Protecting Nevada women and working families means protecting that majority and expanding the number of women of color serving in the Legislature. With early voting in full swing and so much at stake for health care and redistricting in 2021, we are confident that our historic investment will make the difference in the final push toward Election Day and once again help get our women over the finish line.”
This cycle EMILYs List has endorsed 21 pro-choice Democratic women for the state Assembly and Senate: Kristee Watson (SD-05), Nicole Cannizzaro (SD-06), Roberta Lange (SD-07), Dallas Harris (SD-11), Wendy Jauregui-Jackins (SD-15), Liz Becker (SD-18), Radhika Kunnel (AD-02), Connie Munk (AD-04), Brittney Miller (AD-05), Shondra Summers-Armstrong (AD-06), Rochelle Nguyen (AD-10), Bea Duran (AD-11), Cecelia González (AD-16), Clara Thomas (AD-17), Venicia Considine (AD-18), Elaine Marzola (AD-21), Lesley Cohen (AD-29), Natha Anderson (AD-30), Michelle Gorelow (AD-35), Shea Backus (AD-37), and Sandra Jauregui (AD-41).
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $600 million to elect pro-choice Democratic women candidates. With a grassroots community of over five million members, EMILY's List helps Democratic women win competitive campaigns – across the country and up and down the ballot – by recruiting and training candidates, supporting strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 150 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 16 governors, and nearly 1,100 women to state and local office. Nearly 40 percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. During the historic 2017-2018 cycle, EMILYs List raised a record-breaking $110 million and launched a record independent expenditure campaign. We helped elect 34 new women to the House, including 24 red-to-blue victories; enough seats to have delivered the U.S. House majority alone. Since the 2016 election, more than 60,000 women have reached out to EMILY's List about running for office laying the groundwork for the next decade of candidates for local, state and national offices.
