EMILYs List Endorses Yadira Caraveo For Congress

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Dr. Yadira Caraveo to represent Colorado’s 8th District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Laphonza Butler, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:

“A physician and public servant, Dr. Yadira Caraveo is the leader Coloradans need. As a pediatrician, Caraveo understands the complexities of the health care system as well as the reforms needed to make high quality care affordable and accessible for everyone. During her time as a state representative, she has been a leader on lowering prescription drug costs, limiting pollution, expanding funding for preschools, ensuring access to paid family and sick leave, and protecting renters during the COVID-19 pandemic. We know that Dr. Caraveo will continue to advocate for Colorado’s families from Washington, and we are thrilled to stand with her historic campaign to become the first Latina to represent Colorado in Congress.”

Dr. Yadira Caraveo’s parents came to Colorado from a small town in Mexico in search of a better life. She attended public schools in Adams County and received a degree from Regis University before attending medical school at the University of Colorado. She worked as a union representative with SEIU, helping to organize her fellow medical residents for better working conditions. Dr. Caraveo then became a pediatrician in Adams County, where 65% of her patients’ families are on Medicaid, struggling to balance costs. In 2018, she ran for the Colorado House of Representatives to make a difference for these families, all while remaining active as a pediatrician in her community. If elected, Dr. Caraveo would be the first Latina to represent Colorado in Congress.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $700 million to elect Democratic pro-choice women candidates. With a grassroots community of over five million members, EMILY's List helps Democratic women win competitive campaigns – across the country and up and down the ballot – by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running nearly $50 million in independent expenditures in the last cycle alone, and turning out women voters and voters of color to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country's first woman as vice president, 159 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 16 governors, and more than 1,300 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. After the 2016 election, more than 60,000 women reached out to EMILY's List about running for office laying the groundwork for the next decade of candidates for local, state, and national offices. In our effort to elect more women in offices across the country, we have created our Run to Win program, expanded our training program, including a Training Center online, and trained thousands of women.
