EMILYs List Endorses Two More Women Leaders for the Massachusetts House of Representatives
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed two more women leaders for the Massachusetts House of Representatives. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:
“EMILYs List is excited to endorse Denise Hurst and Jessica Giannino for the Massachusetts House of Representatives. Running in the 9th Hampden District, Denise is a powerful community leader who will ensure that Springfield’s voice is heard in Boston. A proven champion for working families, Jessica will fight to make Massachusetts safer and more inclusive as state representative for the 16th Suffolk District. EMILYs List is inspired by their dedication to public service and we are proud to stand with them.”
Denise Hurst has served as a member of the Springfield School Committee since 2009. She is the current vice president of the Massachusetts Association of School Committees. Prior to running for office, Denise served as an area director in the state Department of Mental Health. She was also previously appointed as regional manager of the Massachusetts State Lottery in western Massachusetts by the state treasurer. Denise served as the first vice president of advancement and external affairs at Springfield Technical Community College. In 2019, she was awarded Woman of the Year by the Professional Women's Chamber.
Jessica Giannino is a fourth-generation Revere resident. Raised in a family of public servants, she is a passionate public safety advocate. In 2012, Jessica was elected city councilor at-large for the city of Revere. Her outstanding work led her colleagues to elect her as vice president of the council in 2013, and eventually as president in 2016 and 2018. As city councilor, Jessica has prioritized boosting economic growth and increasing government accountability to the community.
These endorsements are in addition to three previously endorsed EMILYs List candidates in Massachusetts: Susan Moran (SD Plymouth & Barnstable District), Becca Rausch (SD Norfolk, Bristol, and Middlesex District), and Tram Nguyen (HD 18th Essex District).
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $600 million to elect pro-choice Democratic women candidates. With a grassroots community of over five million members, EMILY's List helps Democratic women win competitive campaigns – across the country and up and down the ballot – by recruiting and training candidates, supporting strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 150 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 16 governors, and nearly 1,100 women to state and local office. Nearly 40 percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. During the historic 2017-2018 cycle, EMILYs List raised a record-breaking $110 million and launched a record independent expenditure campaign. We helped elect 34 new women to the House, including 24 red-to-blue victories; enough seats to have delivered the U.S. House majority alone. Since the 2016 election, more than 55,000 women have reached out to EMILY's List about running for office laying the groundwork for the next decade of candidates for local, state, and national offices.
