EMILYs List Endorses Tammy Murphy for U.S. Senate

February 15, 2024

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Tammy Murphy for the U.S. Senate. EMILYs List Interim President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:

“Tammy Murphy is the leader who will fight for our rights in the U.S. Senate, and EMILYs List is proud to be standing by her in this race. We know that if extremist Republicans get their way, they’ll ban abortion across the country, not just for New Jerseyans but for all Americans. Murphy will be our advocate in the Senate, and a pro-choice champion who will work to ensure that every American has access to the critical reproductive health care they need.”

Tammy Murphy is a lifelong advocate for women and families and a leader in climate change and improving maternal and infant health. She began her career in international finance and has worked at the intersections of environment, education, and health care to make life better for Americans. Tammy and her husband, New Jersey Gov. Philip Murphy, spent four years representing the United States in the Federal Republic of Germany, working to strengthen the countries’ relationship. When her husband was elected governor, Murphy threw herself into serving the people of New Jersey and utilized her extensive experience in the private and nonprofit sectors to deliver effective and innovative results for all New Jerseyans. She is currently on the board of directors and charter member of former Vice President Al Gore’s Climate Reality Action Fund. If elected, she would be the first woman senator from New Jersey.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
