WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed nonprofit leader and education advocate Susie Lee for Congress in Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:
“Susie has spent most of her adult life helping Nevada families overcome barriers to opportunity – and EMILYs List is excited to see her do the same in Congress. From growing up in a working-class family to working her way through college to starting local nonprofits that shelter homeless families and teach children the skills for the jobs of tomorrow, Susie is a problem solver who wants to make the American Dream a reality for Nevada families at a time when it’s growing farther out of reach.”
“It is critical that we keep this district in the hands of a champion for Nevada women and their families, and EMILYs List is proud to stand with Susie's campaign to continue moving Nevada forward.”
Susie Lee is running for the open seat in Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District in next year’s election. The current representative – and EMILYs List-endorsed candidate – Jacky Rosen is running for U.S. Senate. As an education advocate and nonprofit leader, Susie has worked to improve the lives of thousands of Nevada families for over 20 years. She helped found a homeless shelter for single women, families, and single parents with children; and was the founding director of After-School All-Stars (ASAS), which provides after-school activities and enrichment programs to approximately 5,000 children. Susie also serves as chair of the board of Communities In Schools of Nevada (CIS), a nonprofit that provides support to over 60,000 students at risk of dropping out of school in urban and rural Nevada.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
