EMILYs List Endorses Six More Women Leaders for the Iowa General Assembly

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed six more women leaders for the Iowa General Assembly. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:

“As we head into the final stretch, EMILYs List is excited to expand our endorsements in Iowa with this phenomenal slate of women. Flipping the Iowa House from red to blue is only possible with these pro-choice champions on the ballot and we’re proud of the strong campaigns our candidates are running to flip the House and expand the number of progressive women serving in the state Senate. In Des Moines, they will fight for reproductive freedom, stand up for farmers, and increase access to quality public education. We’re excited for their leadership and look forward to their victories in November.”

EMILYs List endorsed the following women:
Sarah Trone Garriott (SD-22)
Shelly Stotts (HD-47)
Jodi Grover (HD-64)
Sarah Smith (HD-76)
Jennifer Kakert (HD-92)
Marie Gleason (HD-94)

The endorsements are in addition to the 11 previously endorsed EMILYs List women in Iowa: Rhonda Martin (SD-20), Pamela Egli (SD-32), Jennifer Pellant (HD-16), Andrea Phillips (HD-37), Heather Matson (HD-38), Karin Derry (HD-39), Kristin Sunde (HD-42), Jennifer Konfrst (HD-43), Kayla Koether (HD-55), Carissa Froyum (HD-63), and Molly Donahue (HD-68).

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $600 million to elect pro-choice Democratic women candidates. With a grassroots community of over five million members, EMILY's List helps Democratic women win competitive campaigns – across the country and up and down the ballot – by recruiting and training candidates, supporting strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 150 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 16 governors, and nearly 1,100 women to state and local office. Nearly 40 percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. During the historic 2017-2018 cycle, EMILYs List raised a record-breaking $110 million and launched a record independent expenditure campaign. We helped elect 34 new women to the House, including 24 red-to-blue victories; enough seats to have delivered the U.S. House majority alone. Since the 2016 election, more than 55,000 women have reached out to EMILY's List about running for office laying the groundwork for the next decade of candidates for local, state, and national offices.
