FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Sharice Davids for reelection in Kansas’ 3rd Congressional District. EMILYs List President Laphonza Butler released the following statement:

“EMILYs List is proud to once again stand by Rep. Sharice Davids as she seeks another term representing the people of Kansas’ 3rd Congressional District. Davids has served her community with passion and fortitude, fighting to strengthen economic opportunity, make health care affordable, and protect reproductive freedom. We are confident in her ability to continue defending our rights and our democracy, and we know what she has what it takes to stand up to extremism in all its forms.”

Rep. Sharice Davids is a tireless fighter for Kansans in Congress. She was raised by a single mother, who is a U.S. Army veteran, and learned the value of hard work and service from a young age. As a member of the Ho-Chunk Nation, Rep. Davids made history in 2018 as one of the first Native American women elected to Congress. She worked her way from Johnson County Community College to Cornell Law School, before going on to live and work on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. She served as a White House Fellow during the final year of the Obama administration. Rep. Davids has competed in mixed martial arts tournaments, fighting both professionally and as an amateur, and is the author of Sharice’s Big Voice: A Native Kid Becomes a Congresswoman, a picture book autobiography sharing her story with children. Rep. Davids is also the first openly LGBTQ+ member of the Kansas congressional delegation and the first Democratic woman to represent the 3rd Congressional District.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
