EMILYs List Endorses Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee for Reelection

September 9, 2026

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee for reelection. EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:

“Barbara Lee is a proven leader who has spent more than 30 years fighting for Oakland and delivering results for the people she serves. As mayor, she has hit the ground running — standing up to Trump’s attacks on Oakland, protecting her community from federal intimidation, addressing homelessness, and supporting local small businesses. Oakland deserves a leader who will stand up and fight for the city, no matter what comes out of Washington, and Barbara Lee has never backed down from that fight. EMILYs List is proud to endorse her reelection and stand with her as she continues delivering for Oakland.”

Barbara Lee is currently the 52nd Mayor of the City of Oakland, former U.S. Representative, and state legislator. In 2025, she was elected as the first Black woman to serve as mayor of Oakland, where she has successfully made critical investments to clean up Oakland streets, improved public safety, and addressed homelessness across the city. In just her first year in office, Barbara secured a $9.2 million partnership to prevent illegal dumping in Oakland. She secured $900,000 to restore Oakland’s Police Department Cadet Program to keep Oakland streets safe, and signed two “Protect The Town” Executive Orders in response to escalating federal immigration enforcement actions across the country. Now, she is running for reelection to continue delivering for Oakland residents.
