EMILYs List Endorses Maura Sullivan in New Hampshire's 1st District
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Maura Sullivan for Congress in New Hampshire’s 1st Congressional District. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:
“Maura Sullivan is a fierce advocate for working families who never backs down from a tough fight. She has dedicated her career to serving our country, first as a Marine and then as an appointee in the Obama administration. At the Pentagon, Maura successfully fought for military families and gender equity in the military, because she knew that qualified women should have the right to be on the frontlines in serving our country. Families in New Hampshire’s 1st district deserve a fighter like Maura who will stand up for them in Congress and get things done.
“This is a perennial swing seat that’s open in a deep purple district. Maura has what it takes to take on the GOP and win in November at a time when the stakes for working families couldn’t be higher. Maura is a champion for working families and has the full support of the EMILYs List community to fight for Granite Staters in Congress.”
Maura Sullivan served in the Marine Corps for five years in East Asia and Fallujah, Iraq, rising to the rank of captain before she went on to earn an MBA and an MPA from Harvard. After graduate school she worked as a New England manager for a food and beverage company. In 2010 Maura joined the Obama administration, first serving on the American Battle Monuments Commission, then as an assistant secretary at the Department of Veterans Affairs during a time of crisis, and then in the Pentagon. After her service in the Obama administration, she found community again in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, where she and her fiancé bought their first home to put down roots and raise a family.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
