Women Vote LAUNCHES PROGRAM EDUCATING CALIFORNIA VOTERS ABOUT SARA JACOBS

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, EMILYs List’s voter mobilization and education project, Women Vote, announces a direct mail and digital advertising program to help educate California voters about Sara Jacobs as a fresh face for voters of the 49th district who will win this seat for Democrats to help us retake control of Congress.

Sara Jacobs is the only Democratic woman in the field of candidates to replace retiring Congressman Darrell Issa. Jacobs worked for President Obama at the State Department, at UNICEF and at the United Nations. More recently, Jacobs ran an educational non-profit organization which works to connect schools all over the world to the Internet, giving every child on the planet access to technology. Jacobs is committed to standing up to Trump; she’ll protect President Obama’s legacy, including fighting Donald Trump and the Republicans who want to repeal the Affordable Care Act. She will oppose any Republican repeal plan that cuts health care, guts protections for people with pre-existing conditions or slashes Medicaid. She spoke out against sexual harassment at the State Department and will fight harassment in the workplace and Congress. She’ll take on Trump and the NRA and push for a ban on military assault weapons.

The mail program includes 4 initial pieces to a district-wide universe of Democratic and Decline to State women 18 and over who voted in both the 2016 primary and general elections, Dem women who voted in the 2012 and 2014 primaries but did not vote in the 2016 primary and Dem women who have registered to vote since November 2016. The universe is 62,563 voters in 57,299 households. In addition, the initial program includes 2 more pieces to Orange County voters who match the above description – 12,610 voters in 11,645 households.  These will all be delivered prior to the beginning of vote-by-mail.

The four pieces of district-wide mail will drop on the following dates: 4/4, 4/9, 4/16/, 4/23. The Orange County specific mail will drop on 4/12 and 4/19.

In addition to the direct mail, there is an initial investment being made in digital advertising before VBM that includes Facebook and Youtube videos of varying lengths. The expected matched universe will include 80,000 1-to-1 matches on Facebook and 55,000 1-to-1 matches on preroll as well as targeting of millennial women and an over indexing of the LA market on YouTube. The preroll ads will be of different lengths. The initial target universe includes 102k voters with primary history in CA-49 w/ 40+ partisan score and 30+ midterm primary turnout according to TargetSmart.

Women Vote is EMILYs List’s independent expenditure arm which works to educate and mobilize women voters on behalf of pro-choice Democratic women candidates, and help turnout voters for Democrats up and down the ballot. Launched in 1995, the EMILY's List Women Vote project combines polling and research, sophisticated message testing, the latest innovations in data and technology as well as good old-fashioned voter contact to mobilize millions of women voters across the country.
