FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Laura Friedman for election to California’s 30th Congressional District. EMILYs List President Laphonza Butler released the following statement:

“Laura Friedman has been a dedicated supporter of reproductive freedom in every elected office she has ever held. She has advocated to protect survivors of sexual violence and make abortion more affordable, and has championed legislation to make reproductive health care more accessible for Californians. EMILYs List has been by Friedman’s side since she was first elected to the State Assembly in 2016, and we are thrilled to once again support her as she seeks to represent the people of California’s 30th Congressional District and continue to fight for our rights in Washington.”

Laura Friedman is the assemblymember for California’s 44th Assembly District, where she has served since being elected in 2016 with the full support of EMILYs List. Friedman has lived in Southern California for over 30 years and previously worked as a film and television executive and producer. She was first elected to public office as a member of the Glendale City Council in 2009, and went on to serve as Glendale’s mayor. In the state Assembly, Friedman currently serves as the chair of the Assembly Committee on Transportation, the Assembly Select Committee on Biodiversity, and the bicameral Environmental Caucus, as well as the policy chair of the Progressive Caucus. If elected, Friedman would be the first woman to hold this seat. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Rochester, New York and resides in Glendale.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
