EMILYs List Endorses Kara Eastman in Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Kara Eastman in Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:
“EMILYs List is proud to endorse Kara Eastman in Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District. As the former president and CEO of the Omaha Healthy Kids Alliance, Kara has dedicated her career to expanding opportunities for Nebraska’s children and working families. Kara knows firsthand the importance of quality, accessible health care coverage. When she becomes the first Democratic woman elected to represent her state in the U.S. House, she will continue to fight to protect health care coverage and provide economic opportunities for all Nebraskans.”
Kara Eastman has been a children's health nonprofit executive and education leader and is running for Congress to fight for Nebraska working families. Raised by a single mother, Kara learned the values of hard work and service to others from her close-knit Midwestern family. Kara, who began her career as a social worker, is a problem solver dedicated to serving her community. In 2006 she founded the Omaha Healthy Kids Alliance, an organization that has directly served thousands of Nebraska families and raised millions of dollars to support green, safe, and healthy housing in Omaha. In 2014, she was elected to the board of governors of Metropolitan Community College, the largest community college in Nebraska, and has served as vice chair. Kara has worked tirelessly to strengthen non-discrimination policies, develop programs that create jobs in the community, and to make all campuses safe, healthy environments where students can thrive.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $600 million to elect pro-choice Democratic women candidates. With a grassroots community of over five million members, EMILY's List helps Democratic women win competitive campaigns – across the country and up and down the ballot – by recruiting and training candidates, supporting strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 150 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 16 governors, and nearly 1,100 women to state and local office. Nearly 40 percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. During the historic 2017-2018 cycle, EMILYs List raised a record-breaking $110 million and launched a record independent expenditure campaign. We helped elect 34 new women to the House, including 24 red-to-blue victories; enough seats to have delivered the U.S. House majority alone. Since the 2016 election, more than 50,000 women have reached out to EMILY's List about running for office laying the groundwork for the next decade of candidates for local, state, and national offices.
