EMILYs List Endorses Kamala Harris for President

July 21, 2024

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, is proud to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris as the next president of the United States. A qualified and groundbreaking leader, Vice President Harris is the only candidate positioned to win this election and the best voice to define the stakes for voters, in particular on abortion rights. EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler offered the following statement:

“EMILYs List is proud to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris, an extraordinary and accomplished leader, as the next president of the United States. She is the most qualified and most prepared candidate to meet this unprecedented moment and lead the country. And in a moment when Republicans have launched a full-scale attack on our reproductive rights, an issue that will be the driving force for Democratic wins, Vice President Harris is our most powerful advocate and messenger on this issue. She is the best candidate to carry this campaign to victory and to lead this country forward, and she is far and away the best choice to prosecute the case against Donald Trump. We are thrilled to stand with her.”

EMILYs List also endorsed Vice President Harris in each of her previous offices, as San Francisco district attorney, California attorney general, U.S. senator, and vice president. As the first woman to serve as attorney general in California, Vice President Harris held big banks accountable during the housing crisis, took on scam for-profit college and brought billions in debt relief to students, fought for marriage equality and LGBTQ+ rights, and established the first Bureau of Children’s Justice. As only the second Black woman and first Indian American woman elected to the U.S. Senate, Vice President Harris served on the Intelligence, Appropriations, and Judiciary Committees. In the Senate, she fought to raise awareness of and pass legislation on issues ranging from maternal health care, to protections for DREAMers, to the climate crisis, to supporting historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs).

The Biden-Harris administration has been one of the most productive in history, working to expand reproductive rights and voting rights, rebuild our infrastructure and economy, fight inflation, and address our changing climate. They have lowered prescription costs, forgiven billions in student loan debt, and created record jobs. Vice President Harris has been a vital voice on key domestic issues and has built critical relationships with more than 150 leaders from around the world. She has been an especially powerful advocate for abortion rights, and broke new barriers as the first Vice President to visit an abortion provider and to invite abortion providers to the White House. She has cast the tie-breaking vote in the Senate a record-breaking number of times, often to pass key pieces of legislation.

EMILYs List has been proud to stand by Vice President Harris in the last two cycles. Women Vote, EMILYs List’s independent expenditure arm, is the only IE operation dedicated to Harris, spending millions in 2020 and pledging millions more this cycle to reach voters on her story.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
