EMILY's List Endorses Judge Lina Hidalgo for Reelection

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo for reelection. Laphonza Butler, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:

“Judge Lina Hidalgo has been an integral leader in Harris County, ensuring voters have access to the ballot box, leading the community through COVID-19 recovery efforts, and instituting evidence-based approaches towards criminal justice reform. An EMILYs List Rising Star winner, Judge Hidalgo’s commitment to the residents of Harris County continues to shine through in her transparent form of governing and we look forward to continuing to support her through this reelection campaign and beyond.”

Judge Lina Hidalgo was born in Colombia and grew up in Peru and Mexico where her parents were offered job opportunities, before emigrating to the United States in 2005.  Judge Hidalgo is a proud product of Houston-area public schools and was the first in her family to attend college in the U.S. She graduated from Stanford University with a degree in political science the same year she became a U.S. citizen. Since arriving to Texas, Judge Hidalgo has dedicated hundreds of hours to her county’s most vulnerable communities—from her time at the Texas Civil Rights Project to serving as a medical interpreter and supporting immigrants in search of lost loved ones. Judge Hidalgo is the first woman and Latina to be elected Harris County judge and only the second to be elected to Harris County’s Commissioners Court. In 2021, Judge Hidalgo received the EMILYs List Rising Star Award.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $700 million to elect Democratic pro-choice women candidates. With a grassroots community of over five million members, EMILY's List helps Democratic women win competitive campaigns – across the country and up and down the ballot – by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running nearly $50 million in independent expenditures in the last cycle alone, and turning out women voters and voters of color to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country's first woman as vice president, 159 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 16 governors, and more than 1,300 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. After the 2016 election, more than 60,000 women reached out to EMILY's List about running for office laying the groundwork for the next decade of candidates for local, state, and national offices. In our effort to elect more women in offices across the country, we have created our Run to Win program, expanded our training program, including a Training Center online, and trained thousands of women.
