EMILYs List Endorses Jennifer Atlas for Election to the Nevada State Senate
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Jennifer Atlas for Nevada state Senate District 5. EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:
“Protecting our Democratic pro-choice majorities in the state legislature is pivotal to defending the rights of Nevadans. Jennifer Atlas is rising up to answer the call and ensure abortion remains accessible in Nevada for years to come. In office, she will fight for our freedoms and advocate for her constituents, while anti-choice Republican extremists work to rip away Nevadans’ fundamental rights. EMILYs List is proud to support her, and we look forward to helping her flip this seat from red to blue in November.”
Jennifer Atlas is an advocate, mom, and 18-year resident of Las Vegas running to represent Nevada’s 5th state Senate District. Atlas has deep roots in Nevada’s famous hospitality industry and is passionate about creating an economy that works for all Nevadans. She also serves on the city of Henderson’s Blue Ribbon Commission on Education and is a vocal champion for public education, affordable health care, and reproductive freedom.
Atlas joins nine other Democratic pro-choice women endorsed by EMILYs List for the Nevada state legislature this cycle: Rochelle Nguyen (NV-SD03), Nicole Cannizzaro (NV-SD06), Dallas Harris (NV-SD11), Daniele Monroe-Moreno (NV-AD01), Brittney Miller (NV-AD05), Elaine Marzola (NV-AD21), Selena La Rue Hatch (NV-AD25), Shea Backus (NV-AD37), and Sandra Jauregui (NV-AD41).
In 2019, Nevada became the first state in the country with a female-majority state legislature with support from EMILYs List. Following this historic election, the Nevada legislature delivered one of the most productive sessions in the state’s history — expanding protections for pregnant workers, paid sick leave, abortion access and more. Now, women make up almost 62% of the Nevada State Legislature — the highest percentage of any state in the country.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
