March 7, 2023

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Holly Mitchell for reelection to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. EMILYs List President Laphonza Butler released the following statement:

“Holly Mitchell is a perfect example of how important local government is to protecting the rights and freedoms of a community’s residents. During her time on the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, Supervisor Mitchell has championed COVID-19 relief, advanced anti-racist policies and alternatives to incarceration, as well as equal access to quality health care. We are proud to endorse her for reelection because we know that she will be able to accomplish even more for Los Angeles County with another term on the Board of Supervisors.”

Holly Mitchell is a third-generation Angeleno and former state representative for California’s 54th Assembly District and 30th Senate District. During her time in the state legislature, Mitchell was the first African American to serve as chair of the Senate Budget and Fiscal Review Committee and helped California pass the CROWN Act, the first anti-hair discrimination law in the country. Mitchell was elected to the first all-women Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors in 2020, and also serves on the boards of Los Angeles County Children and Families First (First 5 LA), Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum Commission, L.A. Care Health Plan, and Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
