EMILYs List Endorses Hiral Tipirneni in Arizona’s 8th District

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Dr. Hiral Tipirneni for Congress in Arizona’s 8th Congressional District. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:

“Hiral Tipirneni is a devoted community leader who has what it takes to serve the people of Northwest Arizona with the same commitment and devotion as she has been serving patients throughout her career. She immigrated to this country when she was a child and has lived the American dream firsthand. She will be a strong advocate for working families to have the same opportunities as she’s had. As an experienced medical doctor, Hiral is dedicated to expanding all Americans’ access to quality, affordable health care, and she will fight back against any attempts to undo the progress we’ve worked so hard to make.

“Hiral is running in an upcoming special election to fill the open seat that became vacant after Republican Congressman Trent Franks resigned amidst serious sexual harassment allegations. This is a district that has never before elected a woman of color to Congress, and she is poised to be the first. EMILYs List plans to show Hiral our full support and help send this champion for Arizona working families to Congress.”

Dr. Hiral Tipirneni has served her community practicing emergency medicine at local hospitals, and after losing her mother and nephew to cancer, she turned her professional focus to cutting-edge cancer research. A community leader and innovation advocate, Hiral served as the lead organizer for a Northwest Valley TEDx event, and serves on the boards of local nonprofits. She and her husband have raised their three children in the Arrowhead community. A tough fighter, she is running a strong grassroots campaign to make Northwest Valley working families’ voices heard in Washington.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
