EMILYs List Endorses Hiral Tipirneni in Arizona’s 6th District
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Hiral Tipirneni for Congress in Arizona’s 6th Congressional District. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:
“Dr. Hiral Tipirneni is a dedicated community advocate who will fight for Arizona families in Congress. She is an example of the American Dream – an immigrant who came to the United States from India when she was three years old who went on to practice medicine in the Phoenix area for the last two decades as an emergency room physician then cancer research advocate. Hiral is running to protect and expand access to affordable, quality health care, improve public education, and to fight for an economy that allows Arizonans a fair shot to succeed.
“Hiral is running against embattled Republican Rep. David Schweikert, who is the subject of a broad, bipartisan-led ethics investigation into allegations he received illegal campaign contributions and misspent official funds, and used taxpayer resources for political gain. Schweikert’s votes to repeal affordable health care and cut taxes for the wealthy have hurt working families in the district. EMILYs List knows Hiral has what it takes to flip this seat from red to blue and we are proud to be supporting her in this fight.”
Dr. Hiral Tipirneni served as an emergency room physician and advocate for cancer research and affordable health care in the Phoenix area for over two decades. She has most recently served on the Maricopa Health Foundation’s Board of Directors, where she helps support the county’s public health care system. Hiral attended Northeast Ohio Medical University and served as chief resident of the University of Michigan’s Emergency Medicine program before settling down with her husband in Phoenix, where they have raised their three children.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $600 million to elect pro-choice Democratic women candidates. With a grassroots community of over five million members, EMILY's List helps Democratic women win competitive campaigns – across the country and up and down the ballot – by recruiting and training candidates, supporting strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 150 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 16 governors, and nearly 1,100 women to state and local office. Nearly 40 percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. During the historic 2017-2018 cycle, EMILYs List raised a record-breaking $110 million and launched a record independent expenditure campaign. We helped elect 34 new women to the House, including 24 red-to-blue victories; enough seats to have delivered the U.S. House majority alone. Since the 2016 election, more than 46,000 women have reached out to EMILY's List about running for office laying the groundwork for the next decade of candidates for local, state and national offices.
